Large timber unit refurbishment

At an Annual Inspection, extensive timber rot was discovered in the decks and in one of the main support legs of this impressive 12m high timber unit. HAGS commissioned a structural engineer’s report and recommended repair process, which including replacing both upper and lower decks, upgrading the support fabrications and replacing part of the rotted timber leg.

The repair process including cutting the support leg to remove the rotted section. A brace was fabricated to hold the uprights in place before fitting a piece of oak almost 2m in length, secured in place with specially made stainless steel bolts. Thanks to the skill and technical knowledge of the Play Technicians, the cost of the project was less than 10% of full replacement cost.

Works were completed on site within a 4-week period so the park was ready for the summer season.
