Rushmoor Borough Council, Hampshire

Imaginations running wild in Rushmoor

HAGS have recently completed a 3-site project for Rushmoor Borough Council after winning three separate tenders. Three old and under-used play areas have been turned into modern, exciting and vibrant areas which are an asset to the community. The aim was to provide play equipment to cater for a mixed age range (up to age 12) which would be not only challenging and stimulating, but provide a visual “wow” factor.

HAGS designed play areas using “theming” to enhance the play experience and provide the positive visual attraction that the customer had requested. They ensured that the play areas were safe and fully accessible to allow inclusive play.

Osborne Road has a “Pirate” theme including “Monkey Island” climbing trees, pirate ship with cannon slide, a shark springer and coloured surfacing which represents the ocean.

If you prefer a Safari adventure, head to Manor Park where you will be greeted by jungle animals, a safari jeep, tepee dens and lookout towers!

Providing a visual focal point at Municipal Gardens and cleverly taking in the sloped ground, is the dramatic Hill Fort, packed with challenges and activities for young adventurers, the unit also has inclusive access across the “draw bridge” leading to a platform with panel games.

Traditional playground favourites are cleverly included such as swings, springers and roundabouts along with our dynamic play items such as Titan and Viper, giving a more thrilling experience to the slightly older children.

Andy Ford, Parks Manager at Rushmoor Borough Council says: “HAGS presented fantastic designs, providing the Council and local communities with high quality play-spaces at exceptional value for money. They were a great company to work with, really getting the balance of each site exactly right and delivering within budget and timescales agreed. Local residents have been extremely happy with the results and children have been enjoying the new facilities over the summer holidays. We’ve received some great feedback from residents, including comments like, “it looks fantastic and captures a young child’s imagination” and “happy faces all around!”

It has been satisfying delivering these high quality play-spaces in partnership with HAGS and we look forward to the opportunity to deliver more in the future!”
