Maidstone B.C. choose
HAGS for their first Skate Bowl
How the project came about...
Maidstone
Borough Council appointed HAGS to carry out a Consultation to establish whether
there was a need for a Skate Facility at South Park, Maidstone and if so what
was required. A comprehensive questionnaire was used incorporating various
ramps and elements of a Skate Park that the youth would be able to rate (in
order of preference) to allow the design to be tailored to the needs and wishes
of these potential users.
The Consultation was undertaken between the week commencing 15th May and the
week ending 10th June 2006.
The main areas targeted were the local Schools, Whatmans Park which has a
large skating and BMX fraternity, Mote Park and The Surf Shack the local skate
supplier. Each school was visited and asked to encourage their students to
attend the Consultations arranged for the 16th May and the 6th June at South
Borough School.
As a result of the feedback from the consultation the first design was produced
and then distributed for further comments. The number one request was for
a bowl and so this has formed a major feature of the overall design.
Installation has now started with the bases currently being constructed and
completion is due by mid December. There will be a Grand Official Opening
of the area!
